"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
- Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, following the attack on Pearl Harbor
BRTP Members:
By a sneak attack vote in the middle of the night last night, Congress has past the last real hurtle to put health care - and for the first time in our nation, your life - under their control. They call it "reform", but it is not the reform they promised the hard-working American people, nor the reform the American people want or need. It is not reform we can even afford.
The reason for the obsessive march of Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Landrieu, etc., in this debate has little to do with "reform" as most of us understand it, and everything to do with finally achieving a 19th century European political dream here in America. The American Progressive movement, which developed out of the Socialist/Marxist movements of the 1800'a, has been slowly altering the American political landscape for almost a century. They gave us such "reforms" as the Income Tax, the New Deal, Welfare, Medicare, and Medi-Aid to name only a
few. Progressives see government as the answer to all problems, and the more government there is, the better.
Our Tea Party movement, however, has only been fighting the Progressive growth of government for less than a year. While last night's cloture vote in the Senate is far from good news, we can not afford to allow lost a battle to prevent us form winning the war. We must take the long view. We are entering into a multi-generational political debate, and we are only in the opening round. Yes, it is difficult to remain optimistic when Congress is so unresponsive to the desires of the American people. Yes, it is frustrating when the Progressive definition of democratic openness and transparent is little more than business-as-usual simple bribery. And yes, as government digs deeper into our daily lives - and thinks they have a right to so - it is easy to give up hope.
But don't give up hope! Because in 2009 the sleeping giant of hard-working America has awakened. We are that giant. You are that giant. And each of us, awake, are now filled with a resolve to defend our Founders, our Constitution, and our Rights, will fight to return government to it's rightful role as our servant - not our master. We are Americans - we bow to no one.
The near passage of the healthcare bill and the betrayal of our elected representatives to do our will must be our day of infamy. We must never forget; we need to do more. We need to be more persistent; we need to be more vigilant. The actions of the past days need to be a rallying cry and our source of strength. It should make us put aside our differences and unify all of us around a common purpose as never before. Whether this bill passes or not, we need our elected officials to know: You have filled us with a terrible resolve, and our long march is just
beginning.

Re: We have just begun
This is the exact mentality we must maintain. The erosion of our freedoms did not begin with the election of Barrack Obama. The state our country is in now has been a long time in the making. Surely it will take an unparralled amount of commitment and sacrifice on our part to win. Yet, I ask you, if you truly believe in freedom and the American dream then will you stand with us, strong, unified and resolute in principal that we will not succumb to the barrage of socialistic legislation we have been bombarded with but we will fight and overcome. We will maintain the integrity of our beliefs and give up all that we have fighting for what we know in our core is absolutely right....freedom.
"we must hang together or assuredly we shall hang seperately" Ben Franklin at the signing of the Declaration of Independance.
Now is the time to make our stand for Independence. In the darkest hours our country has come to see since that very day when they declared our country free of rule from a tyrant king. It is time we must now declare our independeance from the voracious tyranny of big government control.

Re: We have just begun
I agree 100% with Josh when he said" The erosion of our freedoms did not begin with the election of Barrack Obama". We have not had representation in Washington for many years.
We need a new way of selecting and electing our representatives to congress. That new way is GOOOH.
To change the paradigm of selecting our representatives will not be easy. If it were easy, we would have already doe it. to paraphrase JFK in a speech he made in the early 60's at Rice University in Houston I offer: We choose to change the way we are governed and the way we select our representatives not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.
Tim Cox , the founder of GOOOH will be tthe guest speaker at the New Orleans Tea Party regular monthly meeting on January 12. See their web site for more details. I encourage all patriots to attend.

Re: We have just begun
I agree that this did not begin with the election of Barrack Obama. However, this administration and the democratic party like to use the term "historical". Their arrogance and desire to ignore the fact that the public does not want this bill is "historical" in proportion. I am not a "party" (republican or democrat) person but it is obvious that the checks and balances that should stop this bill in congress are not in place because of the dominance of the democratic party and the administration. I hear them on television speak about the deals that were made with our money as the way they do things in washington. It is an accepted tradition. Well, it is time that we no longer accept this policy. The american people do not work at their jobs and run their businesses in this manner.

Re: We have just begun
I am a 76 year old male who served my country in the military during the Korean war. I think of the men and women who gave their lives during this era and of those who gave their lives during WWII. (THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES). What is going on now in Washington is outrageous. The future of the lives of our grandchildren are at stake. Right now our country is leaderless and all we have is an cheap Illionois politician flying aroung in airforce I polluting the atmosphere. I am ready to join with my countrymen to take back our country.

Re: We have just begun
Thank you BRTP. For the last few months I have worn my fingers down emailing and calling my Representative, Senator and the White House. I even have them on speed dial! I have become so frustrated with government in general that I downloaded all the paperwork to run for State Senator. My Senator is term limited and who knows? Maybe just an average Joe, with no political background, might just have a chance. I just want to make a difference and do what's right. I work for our Parish government and I am sometimes appalled at some of the attitudes of my coworkers. Things have to change!!! Like the man said, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Re: We have just begun
Once again Obama has proven himself a liar. The big meeting with Republicans to work in a bi-partisan move for “health reform” was a lie. While he was going around making speeches, the Democrats in Congress were making more deals. Once again also, the Democratically controlled Congress has entirely ignored the Constitution. It seems our only hope is that the Supreme Court will enforce the Constitution as it did with the “election reform” and declare this entire disaster unconstitutional.
