“Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that Americans will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it.”
-John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776

Fear never results in action, but often creates the lack there of. People do not express political views in fear of what others may think. For years, I feared that my friends would discover my true political inclinations. I would sit quietly when the conversation turned to politics or current affairs. I let fear paralysis my speech in a country where free speech is protected. My opinions may not always be popular, but they are mine and mine alone.

Speech is the verbal manifestation of what is in one’s heart, thus making it an inalienable right. I may be physically unable to speak or no one may be able to hear my words, but the feelings and beliefs that come from my heart cannot be taken away. If I lose the ability to voice my emotions, nothing can stifle their creation. People living under a dictatorship may not be able to voice their displeasure with the current state of their government, but that does not stop them from knowing better. Fear keeps them from speaking, but not from wanting more and yearning to be free.

I am a free and thinking individual, the smallest minority in the world. No one else is like me or believes exactly what I believe. I am no longer afraid to voice my concerns. I will not sit idly by and watch the federal government destroy the liberties of my countrymen. I do not need arms to prevent such atrocities. I have the greatest and only true gift given to any man. I have a mind. I will not let fear prevent my thoughts from elevating into speech and I will not let hope prevent me from taking action.

Re: Fear...

One man with courage is a majority.
-Thomas Jefferson
You are not the smallest minority in the world, but a Soveriegn Individual as the founders intended for us all to be. Power lies in the individual, not in the group.
